HIBERNIA
This,
the first album by Dagda is rich
in folklore and imagery. Even though there are only 480
carefully chosen words on the album (and they are mostly
Gaelic Irish), this epic musical production is a graphic
portrayal of the origins of Ireland at the beginnings
of time, and its history up to the arrival of Saint Patrick.
Hibernia's eleven tracks are
arranged in a seamless continuum throughout the entire
51 minutes playing time.
The 9th Wave which introduces the album
portrays the first arrival of The Celts from the unknown
world (beyond the 9th wave). Mise Liom Fein
(I am alone) is the cry of the great Celtic warrior
Cu Chulainn who, single handed, defended Ulster from the
invading armies of Queen Maeve.
Home again in Eireann
- When Oisin returns to Ireland after one year in Tir
na nóg, he finds he has been away for 400 years.
Tuath de Danaan is a tribute to the musical
gaiety of the evergreen Fairies. Chriost Liom
(Christ with me) is a musical classic that will
grow and live forever. Lyrics are based on the breastplate
prayer of Saint Patrick, but the music is in a class of
its own.
Tir na nóg
(Land of youth), the mystical home of the Celtic
god of love, is a state of existence where no one ever
grows. Winds of change herald the coming
of Christianity to Ireland which is also foretold in the
story of The Children of Lir who spend 300 years as swans
on Lake Derravaragh.
For You, a classic
love song expresses the relationship between Etain
and Midir, one of the great Celtic reincarnation love
stories. Genesis Hibernia is
like an organic eruption. It portrays the formation of
Ireland in the womb of creation, and Abhaile means
Home.
All these stories are synopsized
in a 12 page CD booklet.
